If you had a satellite subscription service before IPTV, you’ve probably used OpenBox. Openbox has been one of the most popular boxes for years because it’s affordable, easy to use, especially if you’re a CCCam user. Now that IPTV dominates the market, some OpenBox users have no choice but to run their IPTV service on the box.
The problem you may face is that OpenBox is not known for its fast CPU processing, or its large amount of Ram is known as a VU+ box, so you may experience some minor issues when viewing IPTV. These problems are fine, but if you flip through IPTV channels too quickly, the box can crash and lock up, which means you need to reboot the box.
Anyway, in this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to set up IPTV on OpenBox V8S and V9S.
How to watch IPTV on OpenBox V8S
The well-known IPTV Player application on Openbox V8S is called WebTV.
You will need Openbox’s M3U URL, which will be emailed to you after the order is processed.
If you do not currently have an IPTV subscription, we recommend that you click here to purchase your subscription through one of the leading IPTV providers.
The M3U URL you received from the OctoTV IPTV order email is shown below
http://m.octotv.live:8000/get.php?username=11111&password=22222&type=m3u_plus&output=ts
You can use two methods to install IPTV subscriptions, but before setting up IPTV you need to save the M3U URL as an M3U file and prepare a USB drive formatted as FAT32 to do this.
Rename Your M3U File To WebTV.m3u
1. Open Internet Browser
2. Copy and paste your m3u URL into the ADDRESS BAR and press enter
3. It will ask you to either save or save as
Choose SAVE AS and change the file name to WebTV.m3u
4. Copy the saved file from your computer to a USB stick then put the stick in the BACK of the Openbox
Installing IPTV On The Openbox V8S (First Method)
Well, most of you only need to implement the first method, so we’ll break it down into a few steps to make it easy to use.
1-Connect the USB containing the m3u file(WebTV.m3u) of your subscription
2-Open Menu
3-Move right all the way to “Multimedia“

If you do not display channels after you have done so, you can continue with the second method of setting up IPTV on OpenBox V8S.
Install IPTV on Openbox V8S (Second Method)

3-Now go back to the main menu and go to Tools and then Upgrade by USB.

4-Now change the upgrade mode to Misc Files and then at the bottom choose to Select and Upgrade.

5-From the window that pops up, choose WebTV.m3u (Web Stream) and you should get a green tick on the right side. Afterward, press the yellow button.

7-Press exit twice to go back to the menu and from Multimedia open the WebTV app. Channels should appear on the list.

How to watch IPTV on OpenBox V9S
If you’re using Openbox V9S, unlike older versions, it can run IPTV smoothly with its built-in IPTV application. The application interface will give you channel grouping, EPGs, and other nice features that are much better than installing IPTV on Openbox V8S.
In this tutorial, we will cover two steps:
- Upgrade the OpenBox software
- Install IPTV using the M3U URL
Upgrade the box software
This step is necessary to ensure that our box is updated and that the required IPTV plug-in is there.
So let’s update our Openbox V9s first:
1-Open the menu, then move right to NetCenter and select Upgrade By Network from the options on the left.

2-In this pop-up window, you can see the current and latest releases. Click the red button on your remote control to begin the update process. When you are prompted to confirm the update, click Yes.

3-Wait for updates and keep your box powered.

If all goes as expected, the update will end when the system restarts. Fire up the box again, and let’s take it to the next level.
Install IPTV using the M3U URL
Now it’s time to add IPTV to our Openbox V9S. We will use the Xtream Codes API and add details from the M3U URL we receive from the IPTV provider.
If you have not already placed your order then Order Now!
1-Use the remote control to open the menu, then go to NetCenter again. Click Camds Setup in the options on the left.

Note: If you do not have this option, click the number 6 button on the remote control four times. It should have appeared then.
2-Choose IPTV

3-Set type to XTREAMCODE. Then we need to add values of our M3U URL to Hostname, Username, and Password.
Note: This part is exactly like how we add IPTV values to GSE, Smarters, or any other app which is using Xtream Codes API, but anyways, let’s give a simple example here:
If you subscribe from OctoTV IPTV, you will get an M3U URL as shown below
http://m.octotv.live:8000/get.php?username=11111&password=22222&type=m3u_plus&output=ts
Then:
Hostname(server:port) > http://m.octotv.live:8000
Username > 11111
Password >22222

4-After entering details, go down to Default and click OK on the remote controller. The Status part should change from None to Connecting.

5-Channel list has successfully been retrieved. Now Click Exit on the remote two times so you go back to NetCenter.

6-From NetCenter menu, click Network App.

7-Select Xtream and press the OK button and you will be able to watch all IPTV content.

We hope this helps you set up IPTV on your OpenBox V8s and V9s, please share if you find it useful to help others.
